Safe Transport Australia is a national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving transport safety and accessibility, particularly for people living with disabilities.

Our story began with lived experience. In 2007, our founder, Peter, became the full-time carer for his wife after she suffered a severe stroke. Managing her daily care highlighted the many barriers individuals with high support and recovery needs face, especially when it comes to transport. From limited accessibility to a lack of trained assistance, it was clear that existing systems weren’t meeting the needs of those most vulnerable.

Motivated to create change, Peter founded Safe Transport Australia in 2012 with a clear mission: to deliver inclusive, safe, and practical transport and support services to those too often left behind.

Today, we are a national not-for-profit organisation working to make transport safer, more accessible, and more empowering, particularly for people living with disabilities. Through our core services, we support individuals in accessing their communities with greater confidence, dignity, and independence.

Our Timeline:

2007 – A personal experience as a carer highlights the lack of safe and inclusive transport options for people with disabilities.

2012 – Safe Transport Australia is founded as a not-for-profit focused on supported transport, road safety, and community education.

2020 – Launch of My Pit Crew, providing NDIS-aligned disability support, transport assistance, mentoring, and community engagement.

2021 – Acquisition of Shebah, a women-only rideshare service, preserving vital transport options for women and children.

2022 – Launch of Rydesafe, a safe and accessible rideshare app designed specifically for people with disabilities, built using Shebah’s platform and insights.
